The Classic FASERIP Podcast Volume 1 Issue 1 – Tell me about FASERIP

Welcome to the Classic FASERIP Podcast, a podcast that focuses on what we all love, TSR’s Marvel Super Heroes games.

In our very first episode the hosts talk about the following topics

  • The basic mechanics of the show, how the chart works and how to play the game
  • Difference in running & playing in this system compared to your typical kick the door down fantasy
  • What books to start with and where to find those books
  • What modules would you need to look at when creating your game

We go into some detail about each giving our thoughts about each one.

  1. Awesome! Love classic marvel! Look up classicmarvel forever.com. Under rescources section has all the books and modules. Just FYI!

  2. I am fighting dozens of battles between Marvel and DC at wunceand4all.com based on FASERIP. We will be attempting to add some context to the endless arguments online. Would appreciate you taking a look.

  3. Great podcast, it’s always awesome to find people talking about my favorite rpg ever the classic marvel FASERIP system. This is the only episode I have heard so far – so some of the things I want to mention may actually come up later not sure. Anyway I have been playing this game for about 30 years now and it still holds up today.
For whatever reason most superhero RPGs are super crunchy and math heavy (I’m lookin’ at you HERO / Champions) but this game was rules light back before rules light was even a thing. Something that I would like to see brought up in your podcast is why people should play FASERIP and what makes it a unique accessible system as opposed to other games in the genre. Another topic that I’d really like to see addressed is Karma and why this unique aspect of the game really helps put the players in the superhero mindset by encouraging heroic behavior and penalizing doing bad or careless things. Also throughout the podcast you mostly mention marvel heroes – something that is totally understandable given that this game was a marvel product but really the game itself is very company neutral characters from DC, Charleston, Atlas – the Mighty Crusaders whatever will work just as well.

Another thing I wanted to bring up is resources to play the game. While I know that scans of the game are available floating around the internet I really like the retro clone FASERIP (it can be found for free on drivethrough RPG) it fixes a lot of the issues you touched on about the randomization of character generation and how that can lead to some weird unplayable characters. It also makes the game company neutral (probably for licensing purposes.) After reading this the PDF I actually ordered a printed copy of the game because I liked it so much.

Last point as an android phone user it would be awesome if this podcast was available on Podbean. I don’t know anything about the process required to get it there but I just wanted to throw that out as a suggestion. Thanks for reading this if you do and I again strongly suggest checking out FASERIP since I feel like it addresses many of the original games flaws when it comes to character generation and powers.

    • Thanks for listening! Hope you continue enjoying the show. Going forward it will be myself and Keith until the former co hosts come back.

Far as podbean.. we’d have to pay for that and we don’t use their service.. but if you go to the home page on the side bar there is a subscribe to our podcast section and it lists android and it allows you to pick whatever Androids Podcatcher you want. It gives you a list of 10 to 20 apps, along with just an RSS feed to bring it where ever you want!
